Victorian WMF swing handle ice bucket with frosted crackled glass, ice-cube shape, bird claw tongs
Very unusual Victorian WMF ice bucket of asymmetric ice-cube shaped body. The glass is finished in a crackled effect which creates a frosted illusion, though the glass is clear. Mounted in silver plate with ornate pierced geometric design to the band. The swing handle is decorated on top with a pair of mythical fish / dolphins that look almost Medieval. Joined by a large pair of later-date ice tongs with bird claw grips.
Made by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik); mark in use c. 1880-1886.
814 g
Bucket:
14 cm tall to rim
26.5 cm tall to handle
13 cm diameter on top
8 cm diameter at base
Tongs – 16 cm
Good antique condition, no damage to glass. Wear to silvering; some scuffing to the tongs commensurate with age and use.
