A superb pair of large antique Victorian silver-plated bottle coasters, dating to the 1880s. Each coaster is designed for magnum-sized bottles and features a bombe-shaped body with a finely pierced gallery, resting on richly grained mahogany bases with a warm, polished patina.
The recessed central bosses are crafted to securely cradle bottles, while the rims are elaborately decorated with wide high-relief borders of scrolling acanthus leaves and detailed flowerheads in the Rococo Revival style. The naturalistic floral motifs and classical scrolls also reflect Neoclassical influences popular during the Victorian period. The bases are lined with green baize to protect the tabletop.
These coasters are ideal for collectors of Victorian silverware, those who entertain with vintage elegance, or anyone seeking a distinguished addition to a curated dining room setting.
