Victorian walnut military campaign writing slope with brass mounts and vacant shield, with key
Victorian walnut box with brass caps to corners and a brass shield cartouche and key escutcheon. Originally this used to be a writing slope and the box still retains an inkwell slot and a pen section with the original walnut lid. The box has a key which is quite stiff and tends to get stuck when the box is locked.
Walnut is a beautiful type of wood and this box has warm patina and attractive scrolling grain. As this was a small writing slope, it can easily be converted into an impressive jewellery box.
Origin: England
Date: 1880's
1248 g
12.5 x 30 x 22 cm
Good visual condition. Some surface cracks and small losses to exterior veneer; chip near the left hinge; small indent to lid; crack to base (covered by felt outside); slope missing.
