The precious wood exterior is richly toned, with delicate inlay work forming an intricate border and a central mother-of-pearl cartouche. The box is adorned with brass stringing, giving it both an opulent aesthetic and added durability.

The interior of the slope is lined with original red leather writing surface and the writing slope opens to reveal two drawers and two compartments for paper and documents beneath the leather, with additional spaces for ink bottles, pens, and small writing accessories.

On one side of the slope, there is a hidden drawer accessible via a concealed button, providing additional storage for precious letters or valuables.
