Romantic Victorian rosewood sewing / jewellery storage box with heart cartouche
Attractive Victorian sewing box or work box. Rosewood body is inlaid with a large brass cartouche to lid in the shape of a heart pierced with two arrows. The box opens to reveal a lift-out tray with storage space underneath it. The tray has 11 wells in total, with two covered by lids. The interior of the lid is lined with dark blue velvet.
Very sturdy box in excellent exterior condition and plenty of storage space - this would make a wonderful jewellery box.
Lovely ornate grain to the wood with warm and rich patina.
Made in England, c. 1870’s.

Very good antique condition. Surface crack along the back edge of the lid; the lid has a small veneer chip to the front and a larger chip to the back; tear to velvet lining; two dividers absent from tray; two chips to the underside of the tray; small nibbles along edges of tray lids.
