About this piece
Pierced silverwork like this is really an exercise in subtraction rather than addition — the design comes from what's been cut away, not what's been built up, which means every scroll and curve has to be planned before a single piece of metal is removed. The result here is a genuinely lace-like effect across the cuff, open enough to let light pass through the pattern rather than sitting as a solid band.
That openwork does double duty practically too: piercing this much silver away keeps the finished cuff noticeably lighter on the wrist than a solid equivalent would be, without sacrificing the visual weight and presence a statement cuff is supposed to have. Made in the USA around the 1970's, it's polished to a finish that catches the detail in the scrollwork properly rather than letting it disappear into a dull surface.
