Ermani Bulatti's design output leaned heavily on Art Deco geometry and Italian material references, and this pair shows both in a fairly literal way: square bodies inlaid with metallic mother-of-pearl, the kind of hard-edged, symmetrical form Art Deco jewellers favoured decades before Bulatti's Dutch workshop was even founded in 1984. It's a design vocabulary borrowed and reinterpreted rather than a period original, which was rather the point of the brand's whole approach.
Applied silver-plated decoration sits over the mother-of-pearl, paired with small Murano glass hemispheres that add a bit of dimensional texture and colour against the flat, geometric base. Murano glass is a genuinely Italian material rather than a stylistic reference to Italy, made on the island near Venice with techniques that go back centuries — a fitting detail for a brand that built its whole identity around borrowed Italian sensibility. These are ear clips rather than pierced fittings, worth noting for anyone who specifically needs one or the other.
Condition notes
Very good vintage condition. Some light wear to silvering; one of the clips is not very tight, but the earrings stay on securely.
