About this piece
The "Wild Rose" pattern uses colour in a fairly bold way for a 1940's Royal Doulton piece, amber, yellow and maroon floral decoration with green accents, set against a mottled ground that shifts from sky blue toward a deeper blue at the base. The bowl's rim flares out in a serpentine shape, scalloped rather than plain, giving the whole form a bit more movement than a straight-sided bowl would have.
It's a large console bowl, built for real presence on a table or sideboard rather than tucked away as a minor accent piece. Bowls of this scale and pattern were designed to sit out on permanent display, holding fruit or simply catching the eye on their own.
Condition notes
Very good vintage condition.
