Very good antique condition with an attractive patina and only light exterior wear consistent with its Victorian origins. The original velvet lining shows the expected fading and use, there is minor lifting and some loss to the pewter stringing, a hairline crack to the mother-of-pearl cartouche and one of the roundels, together with fine age-related shrinkage lines to the rosewood and light surface marks throughout. Overall, it remains a handsome and highly decorative Victorian writing slope with excellent presence, equally suited as a statement desk accessory, decorative display piece, or elegant storage box for treasured letters and keepsakes.
