Biscuit barrels became a real Victorian household staple once biscuits themselves moved from an occasional treat to something kept regularly on hand, and this one takes a properly decorative approach to what could easily be a plain storage container. The cream ceramic body carries daisy-like flowers in gold, yellow and blue, green leaves filling out the design, bordered with fine gilding that separates the pattern from the plain ground around it.
The lid switches material and technique entirely, silver-plated and bright-cut with floral and geometric patterns rather than painted, giving the piece two distinct decorative approaches working together rather than one continuous design across the whole object. A swing handle sits on top, functional rather than purely decorative, making the barrel easy to lift and carry despite its size.
