About this piece

Studio pottery from the 1960's tends to favour exactly this kind of loose, painterly decoration over the crisper transfer prints and moulded relief more common in factory-made ceramics from the same decade. This set brings together two candlesticks and a matching chamberstick, all worked in a mottled pale green base glaze with brown and orange autumn foliage running across the surface, oak leaves mixed with other leaf forms in a design that reads as hand-applied rather than repeated from a template.

The mottling itself is worth noting: studio potters often let glazes pool and shift unpredictably during firing, which is part of what gives individual pieces their variation, so no two items in the set are likely to match exactly even though they're clearly designed as a group. It's a set that leans into autumn's colour palette rather than the brighter, more uniform tones factory pottery of the period tended to favour.

Condition notes

Very good vintage condition. Some tiny chips to enamel.
