About this piece

This vesta case carries decoration on both faces rather than reserving detail for the front alone. Bright cut and hand-chased scrolling foliage covers the rectangular body, engraved deeply enough to catch light from multiple angles, with a central cartouche on the front holding a set of initials, presumably belonging to the original owner. The style leans firmly into Art Nouveau's flowing, organic vocabulary rather than anything more restrained.

The mechanics are all present and original: a suspension loop and ring on the side for attaching to a chain, a match striker built into the base, and a hinged lid that closes tightly against its original leaf spring, a small but important detail on a piece this age, since replacement springs rarely fit as well as the originals. It's fully hallmarked on the inside rim.
