A pair of Austrian Nouveau figures of a farming couple, each decorated with gilt highlights and on a naturalistic base, sculpted by Theodore Schoop for the Bernard Bloch Studios.
Shown is a peasant woman in 18th-century dress, spreading seeds with her right hand and holding her dress with her left hand to form a small seed pouch; accompanying her is a matching peasant man resting on a spade.
Both figurines impressed to the base with the signature of T. Schoop and marked with design number 7812 (lady) and 7813 (gentleman) ; additionally gentleman impressed with the number 2, and lady with number 6.
Made around 1892 - 1904 in Austria-Hungary.
