About this piece
This vesta case is decorated on both faces rather than reserving detail for one side, engraved throughout with Art Nouveau scrolling foliage over a slightly curved body that sits comfortably in the palm. Gilding to the interior is a nice practical touch too, since it resists tarnishing better than plain silver would after repeated contact with matches.
A side bale allows it to hang from an Albert chain, and a strike plate on the base means it's a functional object rather than purely decorative, built to be used rather than simply carried. Two vacant cartouches sit on either side, left blank for personalised engraving, which makes this a natural choice for anyone looking to give it as a gift with initials or a message added before it changes hands.
Condition notes
Excellent antique condition. Tiny ding along one side; some wear to gilt inside.
