Imari patterns take their name from the Japanese port through which the ware was originally exported, and by the early 1800's English factories, Spode chief among them, had thoroughly absorbed the look: cobalt blue and burnt orange worked together with rich gilding, a palette combination distinctive enough that "Imari" has become shorthand for it regardless of where a piece was actually made. This urn-shaped vase carries the pattern across ornamental borders top and bottom, with a single blossoming flower placed on the body, restrained compared to some of the more densely patterned Imari-style pieces Spode also produced.

Excellent antique condition. Some wear to gilt; hairline crack to neck.
