Royal Doulton's Series Ware ran through dozens of themed collections between the Edwardian period and the interwar years, each built around a different literary, historical, or decorative subject transferred onto standard blank ware rather than modelled from scratch. The Shakespeare series, produced from 1912 to 1928, worked through the playwright's best-known characters one plate at a time, and this one carries Rosalind, the disguised heroine of As You Like It, set in the forest of Arden where most of her half of the play actually takes place.
The palette leans into that woodland setting: a pale yellow and blue ground behind Rosalind herself, painted in warmer earthy reds and greens that read as distinctly separate from the background rather than blending into it, a fairly deliberate way of keeping the figure legible against a decorative rather than purely naturalistic scene. Cabinet plates like this one were made to be displayed rather than used, and a Shakespeare series plate identified to a specific character and production window tends to appeal as much to Doulton collectors working through the full set as to anyone drawn to the subject on its own.

Very good antique condition. Some crazing and yellowing commensurate with age; 2 cm crack near the rim.
