About this piece

This bowl sits on a stepped pedestal foot with real structural thinking behind it. The base is weighted and fitted with a black Bakelite disc, keeping the whole piece stable despite the openwork body above being pierced through with a geometric pattern that removes a fair amount of material. Without that weighted base, a bowl this light in the upper section would likely tip too easily to be practical on a table.

The rim is finished with beading, a small but consistent detail that runs the whole way round and gives the piece a defined edge against the pierced pattern below. It's unmarked, which isn't unusual for Continental silver of this period, but it has been tested and confirmed as silver, which is worth knowing given the absence of a formal hallmark to rely on.

Condition notes

Great antique condition. The outline of the foot is very slightly visible in the bowl; few tiny dings to foot; the bowl is not perfectly round.
