Chinese Republic soapstone calligraphy figural brush washer and brush pot with monkeys and bird figurine

Early 20th century ornate combined brush washer and brush pot hand-carved from reddish brown soapstone. Decorated with a whimsical monkey and a bird; the bowl itself is incised with an attractive floral design.

Dating to early Chinese Republic period.

Good antique condition. Surface crack to the front of the brush pot and a chip along the edge on reverse; minor nicks commensurate with age.
