Single-flower vases, sometimes called bud vases, were built around restraint rather than abundance, designed to hold one bloom rather than a full arrangement, which put more pressure on the vessel itself to carry visual interest rather than leaning on the flowers to do it. This one earns that attention: a flat baluster body finished in burnt sienna and cream, a fluted top, and two ornate handles trimmed in gilt, with a central band of pink and pale yellow roses picking up the piece's only real colour accent against the warmer ground.
Made in Czechoslovakia and dated to the 1920's, the vase sits at an interesting point in Bohemian porcelain history, produced just after the region had become newly independent, still working from the same deep well of skilled craftsmanship and decorative tradition that had defined Bohemian porcelain for well over a century under Austro-Hungarian rule, now under a different flag entirely.
