About this piece

Royal Dux built its reputation on a very specific kind of theatricality: figures caught mid-gesture, robes that seem to move even while standing still, and just enough classical or exotic reference to make a piece feel like it belongs to a bigger story. This one leans into all three. A young woman stands in Primavera-style dress, cradling a papyrus-gathering basket, her robes picked out with gilt that catches the light differently depending on where you're standing, the kind of detail that rewards actually walking around the piece rather than viewing it from one fixed angle.

The factory itself started life in 1860 as Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur, founded by Eduard Eichler in what was then Duchov, Bohemia, and the abbreviated "Royal Dux" name that collectors use today only came later, once the factory's reputation had outgrown its full title. This figure carries the factory's pink triangle mark on the underside along with the model number 2077, dating it to around 1900, right in the period when Royal Dux was producing some of its most confident figural work.

Condition notes

Excellent antique condition, minor paint marks on arms, some minor loss to gilt.
