Bow motifs turn up constantly in Edwardian jewellery, a holdover from 18th century French design that got a fresh lease of life once the period's taste for delicate, ribbon-like forms took hold — and this brooch gives the motif genuine dimensionality rather than treating it as a flat decorative flourish. A yellow gold bow sits raised against the white gold body, a round-cut sapphire anchoring its centre and seed pearls scattered along the ribbon ends, the kind of detail that rewards a closer look over a passing glance.
The body itself is pierced throughout in a geometric, snaking wave pattern, openwork done finely enough to read as lace rather than metalwork from any distance, which was rather the effect Edwardian jewellers were chasing. The reverse retains its original C-clasp, a fastening style consistent with the period and one more small confirmation that this hasn't been reworked or reset since it was made.
