The leaf here has a burnished matte finish, which sits nicely against the brighter gold plating everywhere else — same metal, two different treatments, so it doesn't read as one flat piece. A single imitation pearl at the centre of the flower is the only real sparkle on the brooch, and that restraint suits it: a lot of 1960's brooches went for a fuller spray of flowers, but this one sticks to a single stem and lets the contrast between matte and polished do the work instead.
