About this piece
Italian goldsmiths have a long-standing reputation for treating chain-making as its own art form rather than a means to an end, and the Venetian box chain here is a good example of why — a tight, geometric weave that reads almost architectural against skin, doing quiet work rather than competing with the centrepiece it's supporting. That centrepiece is where the real sculptural ambition sits: mirrored, fluted scroll forms built up with real volume, the kind of three-dimensional goldwork that photographs flatter than it actually is in the hand.
A natural oval-cut sapphire, roughly 0.50 carats, sits at the centre in a simple four-prong setting, deep navy blue with good clarity and enough facet work to keep it lively rather than static. The piece is hallmarked 750 near the clasp, confirming 18ct gold and Italian manufacture. The fluted, geometric centrepiece nods toward Art Deco design language, though it could equally read as a later, retrospective take on those motifs rather than the period article. Either way, it's a piece built with real sculptural intent rather than as a plain setting for the stone.
Sapphire: approx. 0.50 ct (oval cut)
Condition notes
Excellent vintage condition. The sapphire is secure in its mount and the clasp functions correctly.
