Islamic decorative motifs found their way into a surprising amount of European ceramics through the 1800's, part of the same broad Orientalist fascination that also brought Japanese pattern into Western workshops, though the two influences rarely got confused with each other since Islamic arabesque and Japanese asymmetry read so differently on the surface. This baluster ewer takes the arabesque route fully: polychrome cloisonné-style scrollwork worked across a gilt ground, the kind of dense, repeating geometric pattern that Islamic decorative art built its reputation on centuries before European factories started borrowing it.
The piece forms part of a three-piece set alongside a matching vase and a second ewer, all produced by Wilhelm Schiller & Sohn in the same Islamic style and sharing the moulded WS&S mark, though this particular ewer carries its own impressed shape number, 6443, distinguishing it within the group. Dated to the 1890's, the set reflects a period when Bohemian potteries were producing decorative ware in a wide range of borrowed international styles, Islamic, Japanese, Mannerist, sometimes within the same factory's output across a single decade.

Good antique condition. Some wear to cloisonné and markings on base; hairline crack and chip to base.
