Victorian Etruscan Revival 15ct gold locket brooch, 0.6ct Old-cut diamonds, 13.22g
A very fine and impressive antique Victorian 15ct yellow gold locket brooch in Etruscan Revival style, set with seven 0.6ct Old European-cut round diamonds of estimated H/I colour and VS2 clarity. The brooch comes complete with an antique leather, satin and velvet fitted case.
Of oval shape, centred with a cluster flowerhead of 6 diamonds surrounding a larger one. The border is decorated in geometric style with alternating applied panels and ball beads. The front has a 3-level stepped design that is decorated with fine filigree cannetille rope-work and gold granulation technique that was popular in Belle Epoque jewellery.
The reverse is fitted with a locket compartment with glazed aperture. The oval glass panel comes off to reveal a sizeable space where a lock of hair, a photo or some other memento of a loved one may be displayed.
The pin has a tube hinge and a hand-made safety catch which dates this brooch to c. 1890's. There's also a small hook at the top of the brooch where a safety chain can be attached.
Very fine quality diamonds with high colour grade and high clarity that look wonderful in daylight, but even more fiery and sparkling in artificial light.
