Edwardian Canadian Roden Bros sterling silver pierced butter / caviar dish and knife
Antique Canadian sterling silver butter dish with the original glass insert and accompanying knife. Large round baluster stand is raised on three ball feet and has two D-shaped handles. The body is pierced with an openwork scrolling design and there is a vacant cartouche to the front, so this can be personalised and engraved as a present. The glass liner is cut with a starburst pattern to base. The knife handle is decorated with reeded horizontal bands.
Very impressive and solid piece that can also be used to serve caviar.
The butter dish is made by the Roden Brothers, Toronto c. 1910’s; the knife is made by Fry & Wigfull and hallmarked for Sheffield, 1947.
