Victorian lacquered papier mache pencil case / pen box with hand-painted children
Late Victorian papier mache pencil case or pen box with two long compartments and a smaller section for pen nibs. Black lacquerware finish and a hand-painted scene to lid depicting children. One boy is rowing a boat, another boy is carrying a fishing rod and net and in the centre there is a boy with a shotgun showing a freshly killed bird to a girl. The girl does not appear to be particularly impressed. There is a brass escutcheon to the front.
Made in England, c. 1890’s.

Good overall antique condition. Wear to the lid design; two chips to lid – front left and back right corners.
