Antique Italian pottery majolica baluster bowl with Renaissance sea monster dolphin handles
Antique Italian majolica bowl or small planter of baluster oval body, raised on a pedestal foot. Cobalt blue ground with orange borders and beige and brown scrolling design; on one side of the bowl there is a green shield depicting a slithering serpent. The bowl has two figural handles in the shape of dolphins which are depicted as sea monsters in Renaissance style.
Made in Italy, c. 1870's.

Good antique condition. Some nicks and chips to glaze; chips to noses of dolphins that have been overpainted; cracks to both dolphins and repair to one.
