1870’s Arts & Crafts Staffordshire salt glazed stoneware gilded bamboo relief teapot with butterfly finial to pewter lid
Mid-Victorian salt glazed stoneware teapot with a pewter lid and high-relief bamboo moulding that is accented with gilt. Adding salt to the kiln creates a gleaming, but transparent glaze and a smooth, slightly imperfect texture similar to that of an orange. Baluster egg-shaped body and reeded detailing to the handle. The hinged lid has a figural finial in the shape of a butterfly.
Made in Staffordshire, c. 1870's.
