Late Victorian Mappin & Webb silver plated 24 piece 12 person fish cutlery set in oak canteen
Splendid late Victorian fish cutlery canteen for 12 comprising 24 highly decorative silver plated forks and knives, made by Mappin & Webb, one of the most famous British silver companies. The handles are beautifully embossed with high relief scroll and foliage in typical Art Nouveau style. The set is housed in the original fitted oak case that is lined with royal blue silk and felt. The interior of the lid is gilded with the Mappin & Webb Royal Warrant under a crown: "Mappin & Webb, silversmiths to the Queen, Sheffield & London". The pieces are marked "Princes' plate Rd 71552", denoting a particularly high standard of silvering.
The lid has a vacant brass shield cartouche, so this set can be engraved and personalised as a present.
