Chinese Guangxu yellow ground Yangcai floral Yuhuchunping porcelain vase in Qianlong style

£1,750.00

Late 19th century Chinese famille rose pear-shaped vase, enamelled with a variety of colourful flowers on a yellow background. The body of the vase is decorated with sgraffito plumes that add to its textured design. The floral patterns, with scrolling tendrils, complement the yellow background.

Yuhuchunping is a classic Chinese vase form distinguished by its pear-shaped body, slender waisted neck, and flared mouth, all supported by a short foot. The exterior is decorated with floral sprays, including lotus, peach blossom, rose, morning glory, pomegranate, lily, honeysuckle, narcissus, iris, anemone, aster, and passionfruit, set against the yellow ground with sgraffito arabesque patterns.

A blue floral band circles the shoulder, while a lotus petal border decorates the foot. The neck continues the floral design on the yellow ground, with a red foliate border and a gilt band around the mouth rim.

This vase bears an iron-red four-character Qianlong seal mark on the base, paying homage to the Qing dynasty period.
It is a faithful reproduction of an early 18th-century imperial vase (sold at Christie's for £338,500) reflecting the craftsmanship and elegance of the original design.
