Cased Victorian sterling silver fish serving set with putto, lilies and dolphins, 1858
Stunning mid-Victorian sterling silver cased pair of fish servers. Exquisite openwork, engraved and etched design of water lilies; the centre of the blade depicts a putto seated in a shell and being pulled by two sea monsters. Wonderful attention to detail with birds, cliffs and boats in the background of the cherub, who's holding some reeds to hurry the dolphins along. The fluted handles are decorated in high-relief with applied scrolls and foliage
Each part of the cutlery set is fully hallmarked - the blade, the fork head and the handles.
The set comes in its original leather fitted presentation case with purple velvet and royal blue silk lining. The interior of the lid is marked in gold letters with the retailer's logo:
