The malachite green leather panels on the lid and sides carry richly embossed organic decoration, close enough to Archibald Knox's style that the resemblance is worth naming outright, and the same leather lines the underside of the lid too, so the interior doesn't feel like an afterthought tacked on once the exterior was finished.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBoxes of this kind were made for the retailers Edwardian households actually shopped at for fitted dressing cases — Asprey, Harrods, Finnigans, the Army \u0026amp; Navy Stores — and the brass handles and fittings here earn that pedigree, properly engineered rather than merely ornamental. Open it up and there's suede and velvet lining three separate lift-out trays: the top one built specifically for rings, the two below divided into four compartments each for jewellery and smaller accessories. A separate lockable side compartment hides under its own hinged cover, the kind of feature that suggests whoever commissioned it had rather a lot worth locking away.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMore than a century on, it still does exactly what it was built to do — jewellery casket, dressing table box, or a small cabinet for whatever you happen to collect — and the restrained Art Nouveau styling means it doesn't look like a museum piece dropped into a modern room by mistake.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eCondition notes\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePresented in very good antique condition with an attractive, well-preserved patina throughout. The fruitwood and embossed leather panels remain in excellent order, showing only light scuffs, scratches and honest age-related wear. The velvet and suede-lined trays are clean overall, although some of the decorative trim has lifted in places, including around the trays and the side compartment. Both keys are present and turn their respective mechanisms, although the locks would benefit from adjustment to achieve full engagement.
